Abstract

Based on the definition of archigraphy, meaning as the original relationship between writing and architecture, the essay – starting with a series of concepts derived from the discipline of epigraphy such as exposed urban writings and textual display programmes – recognises a dimension of the landscape that is defined as textual and consequently also a specific form of visual pollution. Within this framework, neographies, contemporary forms of writing, are placed, and in particular the structural differences between neographies at the architectural and urban scale and archigraphies are recognised, identifying in the case of the KPN tower in Rotterdam a significant evolutionary leap.
