Abstract

The combination of the archaeological record, documentary data, and the results of archaeometric analyses provides an overview of the medieval monetary circulation of Emilia Romagna. It is somewhat to overcome the idea of the medieval local econom, as subject to the constraints of a monetary area. Opening of investigations beyond traditional geographical boundaries is the conditio sine qua non for fully understanding this territory. The overlap and intersection of different account systems and monetary areas in this region have outlined the contours of the economic dynamics, which developed between the 10th and 13th centuries. The second part of this paper is dedicated to the medieval numismatic finds, occurred during the excavations at the complex of the former Leon Battista Alberti in Rimini.
