The contemporary Italian detective novel is characterised by the presence of numerous technical-scientific knowledge, typical of the literary genre. The terminology that accompanies them pushes the narrator to construct reformulation strategies, in the text and in the dialogues, like those found in popular science discourses, through which it is incorporated into the story. In these reformulation strategies, where voices are concentrated to explain the meaning of terms, the asymmetrical relationships between characters in the face of technical and scientific knowledge are captured. This contribution intends to analyse how, within a corpus of detective stories translated into French, the translator operates a translation of terminology and in turn constructs, in the text and with the footnotes, strategies for the elucidation of terminology, thus participating in the representation of knowledge and characterisation of the characters.
