The article puts forward a reflection on the so called “Jewish body” as a paradigmatic place of practices of representation regarding the violence suffered and acted upon, in the problematic articulation of these two dimensions. A series of ase studies is taken into account: from Maus by Art Spiegelman to some examples of contemporary Israeli literature (Keret and Sarid) up until the re-writing of the Merchant of Venice proposed by Roee Rosen; and moreover up to two well-known instances of contemporary choreography by both Ohad Naharin and Arkadi Zaides. The article identifies in the interconnected tropes of metalepsis and literalization the key through which it becomes possible to create provocative and innovative re-readings of the connection between violence and the body.
