The future of the left: from Galtung’s modern constructivism to the politically correct ideology of post-modernity

Galtung was the leader of leftist constructivism in human sciences during the modern phase of the West, in order to promote peace, conflict resolution, democracy and welfare state. The ‘politically correct’ ideology has spread in the left with post-modernity (after 1989). Political correctness is based upon two principles: standardizing what is different; not criticizing weak or underdog actors. The moderate left has absorbed the values of multi-culturalism and cultural relativism. Political correctness has promoted asymmetric integration of migrants -that led to cultural ghettos-, pluri-national states in conflict resolution, only military interventions that do not punish criminal governments of the third world, the inducements to democratizing states, the support of moderate Islamic fundamentalists. In economy, the impact of political correctness has been lower, because the left has also promoted universal policies like welfare state and global environment regimes. The post-modern evolution of the left has weakened Galtung’s constructivist strategies. The politically correct ideology obstructs conflict resolution because it is too rigid and only promotes pluri-national states; then, it favors warmonger diplomacies like those of Zelensky; finally, it weakens democracies, because it discourages politically conditionality against autocracies.
