The goal of this article is to illustrate the potential of Diegetic-Mimetic Axis Analysis (DMA) in critically examining the relationship between exclusive language and authorial agency in literary texts. DMA is a methodological-theoretical approach for Distant Reading that is based on the theoretical distinction between diegesis and mimesis and in the employment of differential analysis. The software employed here is Voyant Tools and the corpus under investigation and application of the new methodology is composed of all the texts that are known as Le indagini del commissario Montalbano, one of the most famous literary serials of recent decades in Italy.
