This article offers an overview of our recent contributions to the fields of organic synthesis and catalysis. More specifically, our group has been actively working in the following research areas: 1) use of aromatic compounds as photocatalysts; 2) exploitation of carbon dots as nano-organocatalytic systems; 3) utilization of carbon nitrides and 2D materials in organic catalysis.
