In this chapter I propose some reflections arising from various field studies carried out between 2009 and 2020 in Genoa, a city located in north-western Italy, characterised by the now stable rooting of the Latin American community and its insertion into the Genoese productive structure. From the research carried out over all these years it emerges that the status of languages, the perceptions of them in situations of social contact and the linguistic self-perception towards one’s own language or variant are three crucial aspects to be considered in order to be able to manage linguistic contact profitably in migratory contexts.

Abstract
In this chapter I propose some reflections arising from various field studies carried out between 2009 and 2020 in Genoa, a city located in north-western Italy, characterised by the now stable rooting of the Latin American community and its insertion into the Genoese productive structure. From the research carried out over all these years it emerges that the status of languages, the perceptions of them in situations of social contact and the linguistic self-perception towards one’s own language or variant are three crucial aspects to be considered in order to be able to manage linguistic contact profitably in migratory contexts.File in questo prodotto:
