Scholars have mainly questioned the constitution in CTh. 7.1.13 about its ratio, especially stating or denying that it was aimed at protecting the purity of river waters. In this contribution, the ratio and some long-standing exegetical problems, already highlighted by Godefroy and of no marginal importance, are addressed.
