The essay traces the main lines of the evolution of the domestic politics of Greater Romania, the interwar Romanian state born at the end of the First World War from the union of the territories of Transylvania, Bukovina, and Bessarabia with the former Kingdom of Romania. The interwar period, generally considered from a Romanian perspective to be the most significant and fruitful in contemporary national history, especially when compared with the communist era, is particularly complex and not reducible to simple interpretative schemes, being characterized by liberal-democratic elements but also by a progressive slide, during the 1930s, towards an authoritarian system, similar to other Central and Eastern European countries.

Abstract
The essay traces the main lines of the evolution of the domestic politics of Greater Romania, the interwar Romanian state born at the end of the First World War from the union of the territories of Transylvania, Bukovina, and Bessarabia with the former Kingdom of Romania. The interwar period, generally considered from a Romanian perspective to be the most significant and fruitful in contemporary national history, especially when compared with the communist era, is particularly complex and not reducible to simple interpretative schemes, being characterized by liberal-democratic elements but also by a progressive slide, during the 1930s, towards an authoritarian system, similar to other Central and Eastern European countries.Pubblicazioni consigliate
