Starting from a re-analysis of the indirect tradition of Demochares of Leuconoe, the author reconsiders the profile of the Athenian orator and his Histories. The article specifically focuses on two traits traditionally attributed to Demochares: his supposed anti-Macedonian stance and the pro-Athenian tone that is said to have characterized his historiographical work.
