The author shows how Carr’s characters are not born monsters, as often believes the common view of the legacy of the classical drama, but they become so, because of the restrictive roles of the patriarchal order in contemporary Ireland and in Western world at large. She compares Greek tragedies and her contemporary transpositions captures the moment women’s identities and experiences transform them into the terrifying monsters of patriarchal oppression.
