Citizenship and security are two over-debated concepts, while their relationship is not. In the first part of the paper three senses of “citizenship” are distinguished: legal status, political participation, social integration. In the second one, a similar distinctionis drawn between individual security (in fact, a right to negative freedom), and the individual interest to the goods of social and national/public security. In the third one, finally, relationship between the three senses of “citizenship” e the main, national/public sense of “security” is analyzed. The simple conclusion is legal and political citizenship are almost irrelevant for such a security, while social citizenship, the only really relevant, is the good most difficult to obtain.

Abstract
Citizenship and security are two over-debated concepts, while their relationship is not. In the first part of the paper three senses of “citizenship” are distinguished: legal status, political participation, social integration. In the second one, a similar distinctionis drawn between individual security (in fact, a right to negative freedom), and the individual interest to the goods of social and national/public security. In the third one, finally, relationship between the three senses of “citizenship” e the main, national/public sense of “security” is analyzed. The simple conclusion is legal and political citizenship are almost irrelevant for such a security, while social citizenship, the only really relevant, is the good most difficult to obtain.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
